In this project we undertake the design and making of either a hall table or desk. The hall table is usually the first piece of furniture that visitors encounter, it is a place to display special objects and as such it has the power to create strong impressions.

The desk is the place where we communicate and record, a personal place where we can feel comfortable and also store all the items we require while we do this. The scope is wide open for distinctively expressing oneself and beginning to map out ones own personal style while balancing the structural, aesthetic and functional requirements of the project. This interaction along with the tendency for these types of furniture to be particularly personal or representative, gives us plenty of inspiration.

In woodworking terms this project represents a serious challenge and opportunity to fully develop, apply and integrate a range of advance skills and techniques and enjoy the consequent increase in self confidence.
