This three week course is designed to enable participants to understand the making of and appropriate use of the classic frame and panel. Students will construct both solid and veneered panels and capture them in mortise and tenoned frames then integrate these into a delicate wall cabinet designed by John Shaw. This course covers the special issues associated with making, hinging and the fitting of doors as we proceed through and complete the piece. We then cover the particular methods necessary to finish the cabinet to exhibition standard with oils, shellac and waxes.
